Live Moose

I was just finishing dinner this evening when one of the hunters staying in Cottage #1 came to tell me that a cow and calf were on the far river bank having a drink.  I grabbed my camera and headed to the edge of my side of the river.  A higher power zoom lens would have resulted in better pictures, but thought I would share what I was able to capture.

Happy Thanksgiving!!

Family members made their annual trip to Marsh Bay Resort to celebrate the Thanksgiving weekend with us.  Having acquired hunting licenses during the past year they brought along their guns and did some successful grouse hunting.

We barbequed that bird and one other and they were very tasty.

The first group of moose hunters arrived a few days in advance of the Thankgiving weekend.  The first moose, a very large bull, arrived on the resort on Sunday around noon.

This party of hunters also had a cow tag - the little lady arrived on the resort Monday around noon.

Even though we won't get to eat any of this moose, it was thought we should have our picture taken with at least one of them.

 Happy Thanksgiving!  And happy hunting!

Carolyn Mark comes to Marsh Bay Resort

Carolyn Mark (www.carolynmark.com) and Dennis Siemens came to visit at Marsh Bay Resort and rocked out the porch on Thursday night.  A fantastic concert was enjoyed by all who made it out.

Did you get a moose tag for WMU 28?

While fishing on our stretch of the Montreal River, a couple of our RV guests were able to capture these pictures of a moose swimming in the river.

Bear baiting has commenced.  We don't have any hunters yet but are getting some great bear pictures.  Check out these videos and call to book your hunt if you want to do your part to control the bear population in northeastern Ontario.
This bear seems to have a preference for stale baking.

JUNE??!!?

May passed in a flurry of activity - but thankfully not any flurries of snow!  With the early spring and warm weather the 2012 Cottage season started early this year.  Rather than opening cottages at a leisurely pace we were racing to clean and get them ready as guests began arriving.  As per usual time ran out before the "to-do" list was completed but we did accomplish much of what we had hoped.

We did get the new playground equipment put together and installed.  It took a whole day and a fair amount of blue language to assemble the airplane teeter totter - but it was worth it.  We are reserving the "airplane" for children under the age of 10, the 10 & over (but under 150 lb) crowd can enjoy the swing set.

Mid-May we had a new guest make a brief appearance.
I was able to get a picture of this crane, before Tika raced down to see if the crane would like to play!  Thankfully all our guests don't have the same reaction as the crane.

Spring Clean Up

Despite the occasional slide back into winter weather we are making great progress getting the camp ready for another camping season.  This year we tackled the underbrush and overgrowth between trees - which meant many bonfires and use of chainsaws.

This was also the year to fix the porches on Cottages 4, 5, 6, &7.  As with any repair job it always grows into more than anticipated, but is progressing well.

The wishing well also got a facelift - thanks Jon & Mark.

As you can see from the pictures it's been all hands on deck for the past week.  The resort should be looking beautiful by the time you arrive for the May long weekend opening.   See you then!

Snow, Snow and More Snow

Even with the one day of rain last week, we still have a lot of snow. Our dog, Tika, appears to be finding the snow tiresome. Tika is not excited about jumping through the deep snow so finds herself limited to the areas of the yard that are cleared with the snow blower. Most of the time you will find Tika sitting patiently on the lane way waiting for someone to come and visit. So if you want to make a dog very happy - come and visit! :)

Happy New Year!!

Trust that you all had a great Christmas and are hoping for big things in the New Year. If your new year includes some snowmobile plans I have good news. We have snow, quite a bit of snow! Hopefully it will be sticking around for awhile. Plan to stop at Marsh Bay Resort when you are out on your snowmobile journeys. If you give us 24 hour notice we'll have a hot meal ready for you when you arrive in the evening and we'll feed you a full breakfast before sending you on your way.

The snow arrived just before Christmas giving us a white Christmas. Guests in Cottage #2 took full advantage of the mild weather and sticky snow to build a snowman. I believe it was a grandma/grandchild bonding time. Great memory building!!

Some of my family came to visit for Christmas and we did our own memory making. What better way to make family feel welcome than to involve them in the bucking and splitting of the poplar trees that were taken down by Hydro One and Mario!
