Timber!!!

We have learned that poplar trees have a relatively short life span and need to be cut down before they fall down. If there is a chance the tree will take out a power line on its way to the ground then Hydro One will send a crew to take the tree down. They are quite efficient, but unfortunately they don't buck it, split it or clean up the branches. We'll how much Wes and Mark can get cleaned up over the Christmas break before Mark has to return to university.

What Happened to November??

It's hard to believe that it will soon be December. I'm sure the rapid passing of November was assisted by Wes & my absence from the resort for 10 days on the west coast. Wes needed to participate in a Check Pilot course in Vancouver so we took the opportunity to hop to The Island for a few days before the course. We had a great time catching up with the offspring (Dennis & Mark) and were able to take in a show featuring The Front Porch String Pickin' Band in which the oldest of the two offspring, Dennis, plays upright bass.

The most prominent memory of October and thus far into November seems to be rain. It feels like we are now making up for the lack of rain through the summer months. The first week of hunting saw hunters sweltering in the bush and the moose seeking deep cover to stay warm. The second week of hunting was non-stop rain - downpours lightening to drizzles only to revert back to downpours. Despite the non-hunting conducive weather one hunting party did bag a young bull to fill the Resort Bull Tag.

The weather forecast is predicting that the rain will turn to snow early next week. While it would be nice to have snow for Christmas, I won't complain if the fall weather stretches on a little longer. Despite all those winters spent in Yellowknife, I am not missing the cold weather.

Our Annual Holiday Open House is scheduled for December 23 from 7-9. If you are in the area you are welcome to drop by for some holiday treats and a cup of cheer. Hope to see you!

Bear Hunting

Wes bought some game cameras and installed them in the bush, hoping to catch some pictures of bears while we were baiting before the hunters showed up. It turns out that bears are rather camera shy, but this wolf was quite happy to pose for some pictures. The wolf is probably not as white as he appears in these pictures - I suspect the flash and camera exposure have something to do with his white appearance. Don't be fooled by the last picture, it's the same wolf even though it looks like a horse.

Despite the lack of bear pictures on the game cameras, our first hunter of the season was successful in getting a bear. Check out the pictures on our "Hunting" page.

Signs of Summer's End

It's been a fantastically busy summer at Marsh Bay Resort. Things are starting to taper off a bit now so time has finally been found to add some new news. Visitors to the resort greatly enjoyed the new beach area. It was marvelous seeing small children playing in the sand and in the water - while adults relaxed in the shade along the docks.
The new RV sites have become the summer home for some new guests. The Seasonal RV guests enjoyed a number of group gatherings including Texas horseshoe tournaments, corn boil and fish fry. Wes & Sylvia are really enjoying part of the community of seasonal RV guests. There are still a few spots available if you would also like to join the RV community at Marsh Bay Resort.

Swan A32

Last week Swan A32 stopped by for a visit. Locals along Marsh Bay Road tell me that swans are not a common sight on the Montreal River so it seemed an appropriate photo op.

Weather or not -

It's time to get ready for spring. Wes has been busy fixing the main docks - replacing flotation and reconfiguring them. As you can see from the pictures this has really opened up the beach area and should make it a lot nicer for the kids when playing and swimming this summer.

Heavy snow...

Three days of near zero temperatures and falling snow has resulted in heavy accumulations of the white stuff. It's unlikely to stay long as rain is in the forecast, but for now we can enjoy the beauty and unique designs of the fluffy white.

March???

It is hard to believe that it is March already. Soon the snowmobile season will be over and we'll be waiting impatiently for the grass to start turning green. Of course by mid-June we will be complaining about cutting all that grass... but such is human nature. ☺

Things have been very quiet at the resort through January and February. We did get out on the river and drill some ice fishing holes. The cold weather we had mid-January helped to ensure that there was enough ice on the river to make this a safe venture.

Last weekend a friend and I were able to take in a local theatre performance at the Classic Theatre in Cobalt - http://www.classictheatre.net/. It was my first attendance at this theatre. I have attached a link to the website - hopefully they will have some drama or music performances throughout the summer which can be attended while staying at Marsh Bay Resort.

My thoughts are turning to gardening. I would like to create some new beauty in the flower gardens and possibly create some new gardens to break up the vast expanses of grass. If you have any suggestions or ideas, please let me know.
